St John Chrysostom Mission & School

Orthodox Africa is pleased to introduce our newest adopted Orthodox mission on the African continent. The Annunciation of the Theotokos Orthodox Christian Mission and St John Chrysostom Farm and School in the village of Nakyaka in the Republic of Uganda.

About Our Mission

In 2003, this humble Orthodox Christian school was created with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala by Father Stephen Lunagula in Nakyaka out of the desire to promulgate the ancient Holy Orthodox Christian Church through education of the local children. The Annunciation of the Theotokos Orthodox Mission and St. John Chrysostom School and Farm is located in the rural village Nakyaka, ninety-one miles from the Ugandan capital city of Kampala. The school began with twenty-two students and then rapidly grew to seventy-six students by the grace of God. From 2003 through 2013 the property grew thanks to the providence of God and the generosity of the school’s neighbours. By 2013, the school property grew to nine acres which provided them with enough space to begin to develop a proper Orthodox community. Today, this community is still growing and flourishing by the grace of God and in 2020 after a pastoral visit of Father Seraphim Holland, Orthodox Africa adopted and partnered with this mission so that we could continue to help and grow this God-pleasing mission.
