Life at Saint Barnabas Orphanage and School, life continues as it does for all people in the world. A few days ago, Father Methodios purchased seven tons of wood for fuel. The fuel prices have been hiked by 16% at the pump. This burden has begun being passed to the consumer. Every item’s price has been risen 16% as a result. Should that be the case? Everyone has taken advantage of the government’s move to impose the 16% tax on fuel to hike prices of literally everything from clothes to food to water to firewood. Father Methodios said he is left wondering if his society has changed into man-eat-man. The challenge to pay for their necessities has also increased. The trickle down of increased costs affects the little ones that he cares for.
And yet, God is faithful. During one of the evenings this week, Father Methodios is teaching the children hymns in preparation for the Holy Sacrament of Baptism. “As many as have been baptized into Christ, have been clothed in Christ. Hallelujah!”
Oscar, one of the boys of St Barnabas Orphanage and School celebrated his birthday September 9. We all shared his humble cake to celebrate his big day. Oscar is a catechumen and will be baptized soon, together with other children at Saint Barnabas. What a joyous day that will be!
We share everything at Saint Barnabas. The joys of birthdays and being a newly illumined Orthodox Christian, as well as the difficulties of purchasing food, clothes and fuel.

Without you, he has very little to offer to the little ones.
